Basic plumbing and push-fit manufacturer guidance
What homeowners can learn from approved pipe systems, and why preparation and isolation matter.
This is general information, not a survey, design, legal or Building Control decision. The correct scope and standard depend on the property, work, date and regulatory route.
Push-fit systems are engineered products, not a licence to connect any pipe to any fitting. Pipe material, diameter, inserts, demounting method, support, temperature, access and compatibility with the manufacturer's system all matter.
Before any permitted maintenance, identify and isolate the correct supply, protect the work area and test gradually for leaks. Concealed joints, unvented cylinders, boilers, gas appliances, altered drainage and changes to drinking-water installations can require a competent professional and regulatory checks.
Use the exact installation guide for the system installed—such as John Guest/Speedfit—and retain access to valves and serviceable joints. Do not bury a connection merely because it held pressure for a short test.
