Bathroom and wet-room tanking

Why waterproofing sits behind the finish and needs compatible corners, joints and substrates.

This is general information, not a survey, design, legal or Building Control decision. The correct scope and standard depend on the property, work, date and regulatory route.

Tanking is a waterproofing layer or system behind tiles in areas exposed to water. The substrate, joints, corners, penetrations and compatible adhesive/finish all matter; grout alone is not a tanking system.

Use the selected manufacturer's current system instructions, especially at wall/floor junctions, movement points and around pipework. A bathroom layout that moves services may also need structural, ventilation and electrical coordination.
