Heat pumps: what to plan before choosing a system
A practical starting point for heat-loss, emitters, hot water, controls, space and installer checks.
A heat pump is part of a system: heat loss, insulation, emitter sizes, flow temperatures, hot-water demand, cylinder space, electrical capacity, controls, noise and external unit location should be considered together.
Fabric improvements may alter the heat-loss calculation, but insulation work should not be presented as a universal prerequisite or guaranteed saving. Obtain a room-by-room design and compare predicted operation with the home's occupancy and tariff.
Use an appropriately certified installer and retain the design, commissioning information and maintenance arrangements. D-Core can coordinate building work around a system designer; it does not size or commission a heat pump.
